Unfortunatly im no where near down under....in britain, Dharmavidya sent me an invite so i accepted haha....so yeah just having a look really hope you dont mind.
Dear Modgala,
I posted an email to you...re; our London visit. Did you recieve it Modgala? or has it gone missing (sometimes happens from the Bahamas, don't really understand why!)
Kindest regards Fiona
I will be delighted to join this group and look forward to seeing you if you come to Melbourne. In my case very soon I intend to visit Malaysia and learn about the ways of Malaysian Buddhism and also do a small Retreat whilst I am there. The bush fires in Melbourne are now behind us but the devastation and loss of life has been devastating for many people. The public have raised much money through fund raising and this has been supported by the Government and so it is hoped that soon this part of Australia will return to its normal condition. Thank you for thinking of me and should you need any help or advice about your planned visit or other matters please contact me. Warm regards to you-Anthony
Dear Modgala
I am hoping to visit John Zulu in Zambia in the next few weeks. Please could you tell me how to get there and if there is a telephone number I can reach him on before I leave Malawi. Many thanks, Namo Amida Bu Helen
Hello Modgala and thank you for your warm welcome. It is a pleasure for me to have found this site. I am not familiar with Buddhist activities in London but I do know that some years ago I started teaching people in Belarus to become meditation teachers within Zen and Theravadan traditions. I now believe that one of my students is now teaching classes in the UK and for this I am very pleased and wish her well. I am sure that the economic conditions in the UK are causing many people a lot of stress and uncertainty.Thank you again and may you always be well and peaceful and happy.
Good afternoon, Modgala. Most of the nuns and monks, in Vietnam, are very poor. Where I teach the children, they are fairly well off as our Centre helps them out financially, as does a group in California. However, if they don't have benefactors, then the nuns are poor. Having said that, they have taken precepts of living simply, so it isn't a terrible hardship, though food quality may be poor.
I've become interested in a nun, near where I stay in Vietnam, who is elderly. She has over 20 children to take care of, all orphans or abandoned. I'm getting some help to find out exactly what she needs and am taking up a collection of cash and items that are easy for me to carry over i.e. toothbrushes, ointment, underwear, soap, etc. to help with the cost of taking care of these children.
Most people in her situation would get some help, but she is living on a mountain and off the beaten path. You can find out a little about her through a YouTube video ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx30huLc4Mw. I've heard that the child in the video was being buried alive, due to it's cleft lip/palette. Contrary to some people's beliefs about communism, health care costs the individual money, and school is compulsory at a cost of about $300 US per year per child. When the average income is about $700 US, you can see that many children are taken to a monastery to be raised.
As for Sakyadhita not being popular in the west, I see the same problem here. Somehow, we need to have people see the plight of women in the developing countries. Here, in Canada, it seems that the more people have, the less they want to share, while in Vietnam, I experienced very poor people share anything they had, even money at one time. I didn't want to take the money (only about 5p), but it would have made her feel terrible if I hadn't taken it. I gave it to another poor person, later.
Hi, Modgala. I'm responding now to a message that you sent me a while ago, and which I somehow missed. I apologize. I believe we connected via regular email on the same subject of Sakyadhita, yesterday. Nice to know that Sakyadhita meets in your neck of the woods. There isn't a group in Canada, at the moment.
I teach English in Almaty, Kazakhstan (I run a small private English Language School). I practice Zazen for some years and enjoy reading stories about Zen teachers...For some reasons, Buddhizm did not survive here, so I feel a bit lonely. Where do you come from originally?

Thanks for your message, Modgala. I'd like to come on the 22nd. I planned to go to the one at Avou's near where I live the week before but I now have to cancle that.
Hi Modgala,
I really got a lot out of the Fear retreat (14/2). Thanks once again for that. I look forward to further involvement with Amida and Sukhavati in particular. Also the potential is there to be realised around a further connection with the little natural enclave called Gillespie Park. I dunno - a Pure Land dawn chorus combining namo amida bu and the song thrush's song!
I was so happy to receive your message and you have been in my mind/heart since my stay at Amida in Leicester. We have a small monthly group at home, small meaning 3! However I am finding it so helpful and know I probably need a mentor now to challenge my foolishness! with love, Annie. namo amida bu.
Hi Modgala,
Just to say I was touched by our meeting and a long term interest in Pure Land teachings reawakened. It was the bit about 'foolish beings' that did it.
Best wishes, and gratitude for your work.
