Dear Joaquim:
Being a half-city,my hometown is such a religious "hotpot' where an aggressive Christian priest from a gigantic church would go and scold another Christian priest from another luxurious church for "snatching" his "lambs"(or "clients"?), where a scenic Buddhist temple's priest acts so arrogantly and often criticizes other temples & religious persons openly on the stage, with harsh words that U could hardly imagine.
I 'm really interested(busy body, haha!) in observing this kind of "war field",for I like to investigate how human nature twists from buddha nature, how some "religious idols" use beliefs as an effective "marketing tool' to expand their own "religious empire' - popular shows in the Latter Day of the Law ?
I would like to share with U more on these negative social actions, hopefully it won't pollute your pure mind.....Amitabha!

Hello, Joaquim.

Thank you for your friendship. Your scholarship in Buddhism far outreaches mine ... I'm a fairly simple nun with a simple practice. There are a few books written that may be helpful to you.

1. Pure Land of the Patriarchs: Zen Master Han-Shan on Pure Land Buddhism, by the Sutra Translation Committee of the United States and Canada. It is for free distribution from The Buddhist Society of Wonderful Enlightenment, 99 Madison St., New York, New York 10002, U.S.A. (212-964-0523)
2. Pure Land Zen - Zen Pure Land, by Thich Thien Tam. I believe that it is also for free distribution after being reprinted by The Corporate Body of the Buddha Educatinal Foundation, 11th Floor, 55, Hang Chow S. Rd. Sec 1, Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C. (02-3951198) or Fax 02-3913415.

In Zen the focus of practice is one-pointed mind. In traditional Zen, this one-pointedness is the breath. In Vietnamese Zen - Pure Land, "A Di Da Phat" (Amidha Buddha) becomes the one-pointed focus of the mind. I use both practices. When sitting I use the breath; when walking I use "A Di Da Phat."

I hope that my simple explanation and information is helpful to you.

A Di Da Phat.

Metta,
Sister Tinh Quang
