what a wonderful life this is teaching in Delhi. Yesterday we started teaching at Amberkar Colony. Mudan Mohan the community leader in whose house we were teaching was unable to be with us as he had to attend a wedding in.When we had finished teaching he reappeared and took us of to the reception to be royally fed. Everyone kept smiling secret smiles and nodding at me. When we had eaten a deputation said they wanted to show me the new temple they had built, round the corner we went and I admired the temple. It has 3 rooms, a shrine room, a library and an ordained room.I asked which monk they were going to ask to inhabit it. They were all laughing and shaking their heads," No monk."they said and I looked puzzled and they pointed at me, "Bikshuni." they said, "we have built it for you to teach in, of course Kaspalita can use it when he visits." they said.I couldn't believe it they showed me the names of all those who had contributed and I felt so humbled. As yet it is an unfinished shell but they assure me that they are going to get me an electricity supply and a proper toilet and wash room.In the shrine they had placed a standing Budha with Angulimala kneeling in front offering him his sword. I had taught the story last time and filmed the children acting it in the street watched closely, a little to closely, as they went right up to each character as their parts came up, by the community.
I feel happy and humble at the love and generosity that they have shown. In the early days we were dogged by all and sundry asking us for money for just about everything so this amazing change from seeing any westerner as an ATM to this immense generosity makes me want to cry and I seem to have a permenent lump in my throat.Amida Budha certainly wants us to spread the Pureland to India.
