There has been a discussion on sacred sites about some of us joining together for a walk over several days; probably within the vicinity of London.  I would love for this to go ahead but am only in London between June 3 and June 10.

I have thought for some time about how we as Sangha can come together for several days at a time and also reflected on how the Buddha's Sangha used to meet in the forests. So what I suggest, while I call it a walk, is about us sharing our living for several days.  To that end we would need to be inclusive of all members in looking at what the actual walk might be and allow much time for extended tea breaks, chants and general sharing of our feelings about our living.

I will suggest a few parameters for discussion and wonder if those of us with local knowledge could expand these into some sort of actual walk. And please if these dates really are unsuitable but there is energy for such an event, I would be delighted to know such an event can go ahead and make plans for the next year to be there.

What if we decided we would walk for one hour, then find a good place to sit for an hour, then walk for another hour. So we walk for two hours total between breakfast and lunch.  Then the same after lunch, we walk for an hour and sit for an hour.  That way I expect we could cover between say 15  kilometers; sorry hmm is that about 9 miles a day. Maybe we could do this for three or four days and look to cheap accommodation for those nights.  Perhaps there is backpacker type accomodation with dorm rooms- I suspect B abd Bs may be rather expensive.   and that is my proposal.

We're looking forward to it. Selena should be walking by then. But I'm afraid she does tend to babble over people so that should take care of some of the discussions. :)

Hi Rob

Richard tells me he's in direct communication with you about this proposal, so you'll know that we in London are now planning something along the lines of your suggestion. I'm just posting here to let the wider sangha know that something is in the offing, and we will post here when we have a more concrete proposal.

That would be great Satya. It seems a good idea but probably i realise now the dates for such an event need flagging with much more than four months notice.  I also cant be much help in organising from here. Perhaps some short walk for those who can join in this year might be feasible, or maybe look to some event next year which gives us a better time frame to organise and pencil in our diaries. Anyway, as we say, food for thought.  and we may catch up at Eleusis.    Namo Amida Bu

Sounds good, Rob. We might be able to come up for some of this but no time to get involved in the organisation I'm afraid. Namo Amida Bu.
