Naikan Sesshin at Eleusis, France

June 23, 2015 to June 27, 2015
Naikan or Nei Quan is a practice of reflection originally developed in Japan. Many people are born, live and die without ever taking the opportunity to reflect deeply on how they are living their lives, although it is not uncommon that a significant number of us might face such an experience following the diagnosis of a terminal illness or as we approach death. Many of us find ourselves saying that “life is too busy” and that we find it hard to identify time for serious, quiet reflection. But to…See More

Amida Belgium & Nederlands Bodhi Retreat at Frasnes-lez-Buissenal, Belgium

December 5, 2014 at 10am to December 8, 2014 at 2pm
The Bodhi retreat is the most important retreat in the calendar of the Amida Order; the time when people are often joining the shu, advancing in the Order, confirming their vows or taking refuge. It is also a time of celebration when we look back at our dharma activity during the year and reflect on the light that has shone on us and how the Buddha’s have supported our lives. Furthermore the retreat marks the Buddha Shakyamuni’s enlightenment (Bodhi), without which the spiritual tradition that…See More

SILA SESSHIN - led by Dharmavidya at Sahishnu's House in Bolsover, Derbyshire, UK

June 18, 2012 at 8am to June 22, 2012 at 4pm
This intensive five day retreat is focussed upon the, nature, application and meaning of Buddhist ethics. In this approach to Buddhism ethical guidelines are considered as expressions of and supports to faith and the mind of awakening; as such they are "koans" or "hwadu" - foci for spiritual practice to be worked with on-goingly through life. Each ethical precept is a facet of nembutsu, an aspect of the relationship between the foolish limited being and intuited, unimpeded light of awakening.…See More

Ten Day Non-stop Chanting Intensive at The Buddhist House

November 22, 2011 at 9am to December 2, 2011 at 12am
Each year we do a period of continuous chanting. A few years ago we did 24 hours. Then we increased it to three days. This year we propose to do ten days. This is a challenging practice. The aim is to chant all the time that you are awake. Those who do the whole practice remain in the hall throughout, only leaving for brief time to take refreshment or use the conveniences. Otherwise they remain in the hall chanting the nembutsu. The chanting is organised as alternating periods of sitting and…See More
