a lesson to be learned

this week has been a very upsetting one, one of my friends in a fellowship iam in for people with addictions made a very grave mistake and has caused a lot of ill feeling within the fellowship.there has been a lot of gossip and anger towards him, and also people have been talking that he should be thrown out or made to stand in front of a meeting to explain his actions. I must admit i was angry with him too. and my first thought was that he needed a punch on the nose. but them i thought of my ow… Continue

Thank you Dean, for your invitation to be your friend. Yes, i will... and i ask the same to you. I hope, i find the right technical way to do it, so you read a real invitation to be my friend and not only my intention now. We can share a lot and this is good. Until later Dean!

HI Dean,

Faith works in such a mysterious ways and yet when we feel it we start to see and feel differently about ourselves and others. Thank you for sharing that with me. For those who recognise how Bombu (foolish being of wayward passion) and ordinary they are this recognition can be rather painful without feeling the love and compassion from Nyorai (Amida Buddha). For me it's such a bitter-sweet thing.

Hi Dean,

Kai is Japanese for association. So the Amida-Kai is a group of diverse people who are interested in the application of spirituality in their lives. The Amida-kai is the body of people that supports the work of the Amida Trust and they may be of any faith. They may get togehter and organise events that have to do with spirituality (not necessarily Buddhist) if they wanted to. But at the moment, there is no committee as such and so most people usually pay a membership of £20/year and so far there are over 250 members world wide. A diverse group of dynamic people.

Shu is Japanese for School. Members of the Amida-shu get a yellow wegasa which is given to them when they are admitted to the School.
It is a category of people for whom the core practice is the Nembutsu and the yellow wegasa is a way of honouring this and making them part of shu.

Usually after one feels at home in Buddhism the first step is going for refuge in the three gems (and five with Amida and the Pureland if one wishes) and then if one finds the practice of the Nembutsu to be their heart practice and makes this known to others then after at least one year they are invited to join the Amida-shu.

I hope this helps. Namo Amida Bu,
S

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your messages. Your question and conversation about death and nothingness will probably generate lots of different responses from people and so I'm wondering if we can open this up to others on this site? And given that your interest is in knowing what the Amidist answer would be I wonder if we could start a thread in the Pureland Group?

HI Dean
I am sorry I didnt get a chance to chat to you at the Buddhist House on Sunday. Hussam and I are interetsted in getting children to have a page with on this ning site and connect with other children about Buddhism. My children are 12 and 9 and Hussam's are 8 and 10. Do you think your son would be interested in joining ?
