Profile Information

About Me:
I am a Pureland Buddhist teacher based in the Buddhist House Community in Narborough, under the direction of Tariki Trust. I am also course leader of the Amida Psychotherapy Training Programme and teach the Ten Directions Programme in environmental therapies. In addition to co-ordinating activities at The Buddhist House, I spend a good bit of the year at the Amida centre in France. I write books, and have published six (Buddhist Psychology, The Other Buddhism, and Guilt which came out February 2009, Listening to the Other which just came out in May 2009 and Other-Centred Therapy, October 2009 and Acorns Among the Grass 2011.)
In December 2011, following much deliberation, a decision was taken by the Amida trustees to disolve the old Amida organisation and form two new organisations to carry on its work. One of these organisations, under my direction, took on the name Tariki Trust and the other, under Dharmavidya's direction took the charitable status and continued in the name of Amida Trust. Tariki Trust is in process of establishing itself independently, but we hope to keep friendly relations with Amida Trust

Hi Caroline,

As I wrote to David, I'm getting a great deal out of the Distance Learning course and find the sixth unit, Models of the Mind particularly fascinating. I think it really brings both psychology and spirituality together and offers some wonderful perspectives for a truly Buddhist approach to psychotherapy. I'm also delighted to see that much of this material will be addressed in the forthcoming courseblock. I also told David that I am grateful really grateful for all the emotional support Amida has given me in this emotionally trying time. And so many thanks to you, too!

Namo Amida Bu,

Bob

Hi Caroline--Thanks for the welcome!!! I've been exposed to jodoshinsu for almost 30 years; my wifes' family are Japanese Canadian and Jodoshinshu is their heritage. Over the years, I've done alot of reading on my own about various types of Buddhist sects. I've come to the conclusion that no model is perfect, but this one resonates the loudest with me and makes the most sense! About 4 years ago, I formally took my vows and was given my buddhist name at our Calgary temple. I look forward to participating on this site; it seems like a great way to expand and share knowledge!!
