I feel the pain and grief of your loss, Stan. I cannot imagine the loss of a child. All losses in my life have seemed to totally alter who I am, as if rearranging myself around some unknown something that continually changes and shape shifts. Yet,…

The Feeling Buddha is one of my favorite books - I quote from it constantly in my teaching ;-).

My Buddhist past has been primarily centered around studies and practice in the Tibetan tradition (Gelugpa & Drikung Kagyu), plus some Zen practice, but have had a "renewal" of sorts through more recent study and association with Shin / Pure Land Buddhism through Bright Dawn, Alfred Bloom, and Dharmavidya.

Mental Shrines

One of my Dharma friends and teachers said in a Dharma talk, “we create mental shrines to our defilements.”

I recently created something resembling the size and grandeur of the Taj Mahal, dedicated to my own judgment. While building it, I thought I was glorifying compassion, oneness, and the peace that comes with resting in suchness—in contrast to a “friend’s” judgment, idiot compassion, and divisiveness. But it was, in fact, my mind doing the construction and, as Rev. Gyomay Kubose says, “the… Continue

Dear Wendy,
thank you for responding to me. I hope you did not think me rude for not responding back immediately. My computer went on the fritz right after I connected to Dharmavidya's social network...
But I am finally back and am slowly catching up. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect to seeking minds and hearts across our planet.

Hi, Wendy, surprise, surprise. I joined this string of people and then my computer was overtaken by a virus so it's at the doctor's right now. Don't know when it will be fixed. I am not religious in the sense of following a religion or prescribed rituals. But I have been connected all my life, studied much, practiced much, and today I'm simply learning with a higher perspective in mind.
I appreciate exchanges with a more enlightened perspective of why were are here and what we are doing about it.
Bottom line: I teach high school at a time when my country (U.S.A.) is paying the price of raising dishonest and confused generations.

Will keep in touch when I get my computer back.

Aloha, sigrid

Hello, Wendy.

Thanks for the comments. Nice to meet you. I'd love to be able to play all the instruments that you do. I used to be able to hold my own on an alto sax, but that was a long time ago!

How's the winter in New York this year?

Dear Wendy,
Upon my return from London, it is my intention to start a weekly Sangha..I wondered, as you had already travelled this path...Would you be will to share some of your experiances and impressions. I write as a British immigrant to the Bahamas. I have lived in Nassau for almost eleven years and have become very accepted within this community. This Wendy, is a very unusual country...not so much a country, more a community of 'the related'. Our entire population is only 330,000 folks!. In the ten + years I have lived here I see much needed changes...not in fact, but at least we are now considering...change!. Wendy, there has never been group of people who need the reality of engaged Dharma practice more. As I always say; "The pirates of the Bahamas...have never left!, they just all live on land now. And the worst of them wear authority in this country". Corruption is the norm. here.
I see a lot of people opening up now, one of the greatest challenges to (virtuous) transformation is the pervasive institution of fudamentalist Christianity. This tradition manifests within the 78% (black) majority population as a very controlling influence...imbued with a great deal of superstition (similar to obea/vodoo). I realise that this journey will not be easy, I also think that an exposure to international influences will assist in 'opening hearts and minds'. Wendy, what moves me to attempt the (seemingly) impossible...is the terrible consequenses on these people and thier little children. To offer a Dharma door...for those that are willing to 'try' is so necessary. Prajna paramita Fiona

Hi Wendy,
That's interesting about our Dharma names. Maybe we can share what we've learned from our shared name sometime.

I would like that. It's so nice to hear from others on the path, and especially good to have this on-line fellowship with new people!

Hi Wendy:

I am a bit lost with this also. I am studying with the Hongaku Jodo tradition. I guess you would call it a non-denonominal tradition. I have been in the program for two years. I also signed up (or thought I did) to list you as a Friend. Looks that that didn't work either.

Thanks for answering.
