Hi Simon,
I found your talk excellent, and helpful. I have read it several times now, but have been rather scattered and distracted for several weeks for various reasons, and have felt rather blank in terms of a response.
I like Dharmavidya's poin…
Good idea Dharmavydia, and thankyou for the invitation.
It would be good to know if there are others here who live down this neck of the woods.
Anyone passing by Falmouth who'd like to make contact, I'd be glad to meet you.
Namo Amida Bu,

Thanks Richard, it was great to read your reflections on Mary Oliver - and more. She seems indeed very close in spirit to Basho, Saigyo doesn't she? (Both of whom I have only a passing aquaintance with I should say.) She refelcts how she would gladl…
Hi Richard,
I thought of you today: I picked up Mary Oliver's new collection, Evidence,
and read on the first page:
Yellow
There is a heaven we enter
through institutional grace
and there are the yellow finches bathing and singing
in the lowly pu…
I really enjoyed the discussion, thankyou. Like Katrien I also valued the sense of remote-closeness in listening to and watching all five of you converse together.
It feels like a really valuable distinction, which raises many important questions. I…
I'm delighted to hear Mary Oliver touches you too Richard. If it doesn't confuse the issue to use the word this way, I would say without any hesitation that Mary Oliver is one of my most valued mentors. Her own journey, mapped with great insight and…
Thankyou Robert.
What a really good and helpful image that is - "trust what you already feel in your heart and let it take you...thats when heart starts pulling the cart."
There is more than enough to carry me forward right there in what you say. So…
I relate to your ambivalence Richard. What you say evokes for me a sense of the difficulty (at times) of trusting one's judgement. For me too there is hesitation, that maybe arises from not wanting to discover the way that Shin Buddhism has moved me…
Thankyou for the invitation to join this group Dharmavidya.
Sister Mogdala kindly offered to mentor me after I contacted her recently, through this website. We have had some initial exchanges without making any committment in terms of regularity.…
This group is for discussing and developing ideas about mentoring, especially in the context of Amida-shu. What does/should it consist of? What is useful? What are we learning about it?
I have coming back to this, too, from Dharmavidya's last reply: "'the sublime' is a term for that which touches us and has a positive power in our lives".
The simple idea that by the sublime we refer to something whose basic quality is positive and…
If I understand what you say here Dharmavidya, it would imply to me that whether or not there exists a verbal, conceptual equivalent to an artwork's meaning (I'd suggest that in many cases there is not), the work exists not simply to 'say' something…
