I'm currently studying in the field of animal care and work part time at a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, part time as a dog walker, and part time as a cook. This past year I received my Buddhist name, Shaku Ai-hou, and took the vows of Amida Buddha to do so. Part of what drew me to Buddhism was the idea that every living thing can be enlightened and is therefore seen as equal...which makes sense to an animal lover.

There is an active Buddhist group that meets in Kenora, which isn't too far from Winnipeg. They aren't affiliated with any particular sect of Buddhism. David and Caroline may be stopping in Kenora on their next trip to Canada, next year.
I'm going to be leading a 4 day retreat in Kenora/Minaki in May.
Hi Leah, How are you? How do you practise buddhism in Winnipeg, are there many buddhist temples there? I have not been to Canada before ,I heard it is nicer there than LA .. that is the nearest to you i have been to.. Most of my hols are to UK.
Have you been to Malaysia before? Malaysia is a lovely country with many islands and beaches . Come visit me and my animals one day, I do have guests from UK especially in summer..
Hi Leah, I think it is wonderful that you care for animals. Sometimes I think that the non-human animals are already enlightened, and that it is we humans who cannot move beyond the void of destructive ignorance.
I hope you job and your Buddhism go well for you. I have to say I find the depth and variety of Buddhist tradition and thought quite overwhelming sometimes.
I have adopted 8 adorable dogs all with different temperaments.. very interestingly each creating their own karma among themselves.. I just love nurturing them and watching them grow up.
My latest acquisition is a GSD who is overtly malnourished and tied up for a long hours.
Welcome Leah. I've never been to Winnipeg, though I've flown over it en route to the US. In fact I think its somewhere on the photos in our u-tube video at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=y5xeCZMxhHM - about half way through. We flew over in January so it was pretty frozen but I guess you're warming up now?
