Sacred Places and Ancient Ways

Welcome to our new programme of events, training and personal development in spiritual journeying (shamanism). This will include a workshop/pilgrimage series and spiritual accompaniment. The shaman has to go out of him or her self in order to encounter the spirit world. Shamanism is encounter in which a person learns humility, acquires an openness to other powers and comes to appreciate the world of nature. The term shaman derives from the Buddhist term sramana which means a person who has given…See More

SILA SESSHIN - led by Dharmavidya at Sahishnu's House in Bolsover, Derbyshire, UK

June 18, 2012 at 8am to June 22, 2012 at 4pm
This intensive five day retreat is focussed upon the, nature, application and meaning of Buddhist ethics. In this approach to Buddhism ethical guidelines are considered as expressions of and supports to faith and the mind of awakening; as such they are "koans" or "hwadu" - foci for spiritual practice to be worked with on-goingly through life. Each ethical precept is a facet of nembutsu, an aspect of the relationship between the foolish limited being and intuited, unimpeded light of awakening.…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
Interested in Buddhism and a practitioner of meditation and yoga for a long time, I became particularly attracted to pure land and Amida practise because of its focus on "otherness" and connection, and its practise of social engagement. I am applying it in my work as an OD consultant and coach.
Faith Background & Affiliation
Raised as a catholic I "dropped out" as a teenager but continued to be touched deeply by any devotional practices. In my twenties got in touch with buddhism Zen and Viipassana as a light practitioner. Walked a very intensive meditation path raja yoga in my thirties, again very devotional. Amida Buddhism became my path ten years ago and the nembutsu becomes more and more my foundation in life

Our small but lovely Birmingham group met at Adrian's house on Saturday afternoon. As always with this group, to meet like this reminded us all what a wonderful thing it is to be able to practise…Continue

enlightened or bombu?

Started by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe in Buddhist Teaching. Last reply by Robert McCarthy May 7. 9 Replies

Zen is clear that we are essentially enlightened beings. Pureland insists that we are hopelessly deluded. Both seem to me to be true. On the one hand the mind with all it's contradictions,…Continue

Other-power or Zazen?

Started by Dr Di in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe May 5. 19 Replies

I see Amida Trust bringing the 2 together, or are they mutually exclusive? ie the here and now focus on breath of Zazen implies continuity and oneness, whereas the 'other- power' of Amida can be seen…Continue

The prison of the question of "liking or not liking"

Started by Katrien Sercu in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Robert McCarthy Apr 30. 9 Replies

It is surprising how a question, which was a step forwards earlier in life becomes an ennoying limitation that, in good moments, can evoke a smile in me as it is really a funny and stupid question.…Continue
