March 24, 2012 from 9:30am to 5pm
Hosted by Dharmavidya and JnanamatiThis is the first of a series of open forums providing the opportunity for therapy students, Buddhists, psychotherapists and IZT members to come together to explore and dialogue about the key themes of zen and therapy. Through this forum IZT is opening a creative space in which new directions in therapy theory and practice can be explored and developed. THE REAL MEANING OF MINDFULNESS at Sukhavati (Amida London)

March 3, 2012 from 9:30am to 4:30pm
Mindfulness has become a popular concept that is increasingly widely used. However the essence of Buddhism is not a technique, but rather an attitude to life, an attitude that encompasses more than the present moment, more than oneself and more than what presents itself to consciousness. Mindfulness is a deeper and broader matter than we are often led to think. The mind that Buddha has in mind is something very big indeed. Suggested donation £15See More

SILA SESSHIN - led by Dharmavidya at Sahishnu's House in Bolsover, Derbyshire, UK

June 18, 2012 at 8am to June 22, 2012 at 4pm
This intensive five day retreat is focussed upon the, nature, application and meaning of Buddhist ethics. In this approach to Buddhism ethical guidelines are considered as expressions of and supports to faith and the mind of awakening; as such they are "koans" or "hwadu" - foci for spiritual practice to be worked with on-goingly through life. Each ethical precept is a facet of nembutsu, an aspect of the relationship between the foolish limited being and intuited, unimpeded light of awakening.…See More

Sacred Places and Ancient Ways

Welcome to our new programme of events, training and personal development in spiritual journeying (shamanism). This will include a workshop/pilgrimage series and spiritual accompaniment. The shaman has to go out of him or her self in order to encounter the spirit world. Shamanism is encounter in which a person learns humility, acquires an openness to other powers and comes to appreciate the world of nature. The term shaman derives from the Buddhist term sramana which means a person who has given…See More

Many thanks Juline, nice to hear from you.
I also recently made my first trip to The Buddhist House. I too have found a welcoming sense of community here, although this has mosty been a matter of online correspondence. I look forward to going back to TBH in May for the 2011 conference - its a real affirmtion of onlne contact, for me, when it opens the door to meeting people face to face and getting tp know them. For me too, this journey is at a relatively early stage. I encountered Amida Trust's teaching (to which I was immediately drawn) about 18 months ago, after being involved in another Buddhist community for a number of years.
Do get in touch anytime if you want to talk anything over, and if there are any events down this way that look interesting I'll send you a message.

All the best,
Mat

Hello Juline,

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find much here to support and inspire you. I'm fairly new here myself, having dicovered Amida Trust a little over a year ago.

I live in Falmouth, Cornwall, an hour or so West of you in Plymouth, where I teach and make art for a living, I see you're interested in Art and philosophy? You might find the Arts in Amida group worth a look. Do get in touch if you're ever passing Westwards.

Best wishes,
Mat Osmond

enlightened or bombu?

Started by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe in Buddhist Teaching. Last reply by Robert McCarthy May 7. 9 Replies

Other-power or Zazen?

Started by Dr Di in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe May 5. 19 Replies

I see Amida Trust bringing the 2 together, or are they mutually exclusive? ie the here and now focus on breath of Zazen implies continuity and oneness, whereas the 'other- power' of Amida can be seen…Continue

The prison of the question of "liking or not liking"

Started by Katrien Sercu in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Robert McCarthy Apr 30. 9 Replies

It is surprising how a question, which was a step forwards earlier in life becomes an ennoying limitation that, in good moments, can evoke a smile in me as it is really a funny and stupid question.…Continue
