Profile Information

About Me:
A friend once told me that whenever we walk with two people, at least one of them can serve as our teachers. I'd like to ammend that - I think that everyone we walk with can serve as our teacher. Take a walk with me, friend, I have much to learn.

I am a very fortunate person - I am married to my best friend whom I have been with for ten years now, have two wonderful young children who constantly teach and test me, I am a belly dance performer and instructor with a simply fantastic community of dancers, a former non-profit worker who has returned to school to become a middle school science teacher, and a lay dharma ministry student with Bright Dawn.

My husband is a brain cancer patient at Duke and together we are planning on starting a non-profit foundation based on Buddhist principals to help cancer patients and their families in financial crisis as they go through treatment.
Faith Background & Affiliation
Bright Dawn - nonsectarian Buddhism based on the teachings of Zen and Pure Land
Occupation or Primary Activity
Student, Dance instructor, human
Involvement in Spirituality/Religion
I am a lay dharma ministry student and enjoy spending my time learning.
What is your interest in Amida Trust
I "met" Dharmavidya after reading "The Feeling Buddha" as a class assignment - he was our guest sensei via conference call. Though our class is technically non-sectarian, I have become more and more drawn to the teachings of Pureland after studying his book and others. I would like to learn more about Amida Trust, perhaps get involved, and perhaps find advice on Buddhist non-profit outreach. My husband is a brain tumor patient in NC and we are in the planning stages of starting a foundation based on Buddhist principals to aid families in financial crisis as they go through cancer treatment.

Our small but lovely Birmingham group met at Adrian's house on Saturday afternoon. As always with this group, to meet like this reminded us all what a wonderful thing it is to be able to practise…Continue

enlightened or bombu?

Started by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe in Buddhist Teaching. Last reply by Robert McCarthy May 7. 9 Replies

Zen is clear that we are essentially enlightened beings. Pureland insists that we are hopelessly deluded. Both seem to me to be true. On the one hand the mind with all it's contradictions,…Continue

Other-power or Zazen?

Started by Dr Di in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe May 5. 19 Replies

I see Amida Trust bringing the 2 together, or are they mutually exclusive? ie the here and now focus on breath of Zazen implies continuity and oneness, whereas the 'other- power' of Amida can be seen…Continue

The prison of the question of "liking or not liking"

Started by Katrien Sercu in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Robert McCarthy Apr 30. 9 Replies

It is surprising how a question, which was a step forwards earlier in life becomes an ennoying limitation that, in good moments, can evoke a smile in me as it is really a funny and stupid question.…Continue
