Profile Information

About Me:
I have been vegetarian for 15 years, I am in an animal rights group (when I say animal rights we are not how we are portrayed, we are just people that care about the creatures) in Coventry, campaigning to change the plight of the creatures. I have been following the Buddhist teachings for about 5 years now and run a Buddhist group in Coventry, we meet the second saturday of the month, we have been discussing the 'act of forgiveness', reading the prayer of Quan Shi Yin and looking at Buddhist Psychology. Following the Buddhist teachings means 'living a life of compassion', feeling for my fellow human beings and for the creatures, it also means trying to live a 'mindful life'.
I just care about our world, I care about everyone in it, the world is at war, people are starviing, their is disease, people are homeless, their is crime and people are in pain; I just care for them; I just care for the whole world because they are all 'human beings' and they all feel.
Faith Background & Affiliation
Brought up Roman Catholic, followed the teachngs of The Order of the Cross which was founded by John Todd Ferrier in the early 1900's to show people that their was a better life, then moved on to Buddhism.

Hi Dharmavidya,
Thank you for sending me a 'friend request', I have emailed Tracey. Nice to know of someone else who lives around this area.
I will try and come over and see you all in a few weeks if the trains are back on. Pity Mike has moved away.
Regards,
Jan

No, we are not involved in the Free Tibet Campaign, largely because so many other groups are. As our resources are limited, adding to a movement that we would in reality make little difference too does not work too well. We wish that campaign well and have occasionally joined Free Tibet marches, but we are not actively involved at the moment beyond a generally supportive attitude to the Tibetan people. There will be individuals within Amida who are involved, but there are a limitless number of causes and each organisation has to make decisions about where it can actually make a difference. I share your concern for the Tibetan people, and the Burmese, and the Chinese caught in the earthquake, and the people caught up in the Afghan war, and the Palestinians, and the Lebanese, and the people of Darfur, and many others. Periodically we do involve ourselves with a group in need, especially where we have a direct individual connection - i.e. we know people who are involved.

Our small but lovely Birmingham group met at Adrian's house on Saturday afternoon. As always with this group, to meet like this reminded us all what a wonderful thing it is to be able to practise…Continue

enlightened or bombu?

Started by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe in Buddhist Teaching. Last reply by Robert McCarthy May 7. 9 Replies

Zen is clear that we are essentially enlightened beings. Pureland insists that we are hopelessly deluded. Both seem to me to be true. On the one hand the mind with all it's contradictions,…Continue

Other-power or Zazen?

Started by Dr Di in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Thomas Myojo Radcliffe May 5. 19 Replies

I see Amida Trust bringing the 2 together, or are they mutually exclusive? ie the here and now focus on breath of Zazen implies continuity and oneness, whereas the 'other- power' of Amida can be seen…Continue

The prison of the question of "liking or not liking"

Started by Katrien Sercu in Amida Trust & Amida-shu Development. Last reply by Robert McCarthy Apr 30. 9 Replies

It is surprising how a question, which was a step forwards earlier in life becomes an ennoying limitation that, in good moments, can evoke a smile in me as it is really a funny and stupid question.…Continue
