All that I aspire to be

Amida, a vow, to be all that I aspire to be,The wind through the trees,The love in nature's beautiful scenes,The gentleness, in the quarrel. The forgiveness, amidst the warzone,The devoted upon, that asks of no devotion,The unlimited love, amongst the limited lost. The light that illuminates the darkness,All that I aspire to be. Namo Amida Bu.See More

A conspiracy to protect me

Once per month I meet my friends in Newcastle, to catch up over some nice food. At the end of these nights, I walk home through a tough neighbourhood, to stay at my Mother's home, in the West end of Newcastle. I am always nervous making the 25 minute walk home; in my mind, every one I pass being my potential mugger or attacker. This has gone on for 20 years, since I moved south to Durham.  This evening, I made this ritualistic walk home but something came over me. Something came to mind. As I…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I practiced Amidism for a short period at the beginning of 2014, but felt I needed to see a little more of Buddhism before commiting to a practice and path. 6 months passed and Amida did not leave my heart! I am back now practicing daily, and would always be happy to meet fellow Amida Buddhists in the Durham / North East area, for practice.
Faith Background & Affiliation
Amida Buddhism
Occupation or Primary Activity
Initial Teacher Training (Primary)
Involvement in Spirituality/Religion
I discovered Buddhism 17 years ago at a FWBO Centre in Newcastle. After 1 year of committed practice my work took me away and I was not part of a Sangha for many years. In Jan 2014 I discovered Amida Buddhism. I also attend Durham Quakers, not as a member/friend but as an attender. I consider the light and spirit of Quakerism to be exactly the same as Amida Buddha's light and love.

Why I practice Pureland Buddhism?

Posted on July 4, 2014 at 10:30 2 Comments

I was asked today by a friend, why I practice Pureland Buddhism?   Considering that I've been investigating, studying, and (to a lesser extent) practicing Buddhism for 17 years, what had made me take such a 'curve ball path' as that of Pureland and Buddha Recitation.

My answer was inspired by some reasoning that Dharmavidya gave about Pureland in his book Who loves dies well and also from Thich Thien Tam who has tranlated some wonderful Pureland…
