I want to a space Chaplain
Go to the moon and beyond
I’ll take my robe and my mala
Send you a postcard from Mars

I’ll wear a shiny red space suit
I’ll smile and wave at the Earth
Eating vegetarian food
Out of a bright silver tube

I want to be a space Chaplain
Surely NASA need someone
To look after the spiritual
Well being of astronauts

Let’s all chant the Nembutsu
As we fly past Saturn’s rings
And when we meet the aliens
We'll teach them all Buddhist hymns

Do Martians have spiritual crises
What’s the religion on Pluto?
Let’s build a Stupa on Mons Hadley
(that’s the biggest hill on the moon)

I want to a space Chaplain
Go to Venus and more
I’ll take my robe and my mala
I'll send a postcard from Mars

Androemeda Buddha was walking one day
on a path that the Earthlings call their Milky Way.
She stopped for a chat with a lady from Mars
who asked about life on the outermost stars..
She told her that there liberation was won
so she'd come where there still was some mischief and fun.
The Martian was puzzled by this quaint remark
and asked her why everything still seemed so dark
The answer is easy, the sage then replied,
"We're all bodhisattvas: come walk by my side."
