Kids and Vegetarianism
As you see in my profile I am a vegetarian. Are any other kids out there vegetarian?
I became a vegetarian because I dont like the idea of killing animals. It is a bit difficult in Malawi because we cant buy many meat substitutes like soya sausages and so on. My best friend next door is also a vegetarian so I am not alone. Having a friend that is a vegetarian is encouraging. Sometimes the kids at school tease me about eating marshmellows, apparently they have animals products in them but I didnt know this. THey tell me I am not a real vegetarian if I eat marshmellows. I wonder why they do this, I think it could be that they want me to be the same as them and not vegetarian, does anyone else experience anything like this?
It is hard but I also feel quite proud to be helping making a difference to the environment. Someone told me that being vegetarian is the biggest difference we can make to our world, I dont know if anyone else has heard that too?

I am not a vegetarian but have been one this week because it was national vegetarian week in England. It was quite easy but I would like to stay the way I am but I am still thinking about it. My Mum is vegetarian but my Dad is not although he is thinking about it. I like being the same as my Dad. Because I was brought up eating meat I am used to the taste I think. Love Hugo

Dear Nyassa - This is Luca and Hala, we are both mostly vegetarian. Luca has so far not been teased about being a vegetarian but I (Hala ) and my friend Biddy have because a few boys said "you can't survive without eating meat". And we said, "well we survived!". I'm glad Biddy was there with me. Me and Luca are vegetarian because we were brought up like that and because we love animals and don't want to kill them.
Luca wants to know: what's your favourite vegetatian food? Luca loves stirfried vegetables, tofu and rice. I love pasta with just about anything.
