If you Want to Understand Africa you have to Learn to Dance
Amida Trust has been involved in Africa for many years, initially through the initiative of Amida-shu minister Amrita Linda Dhammika who was supported by Amida Trust in her efforts to establish a primary health care project called Tithandizane (="we help each other") in Eastern Province in Zambia. Amrita died from malaria while on active service and a large number of local people came to her funeral. Amrita used to say that if you want to understand Africa you have to learn to dance. Amrita's work was then carried on by Amida-shu member John Zulu. The project has now been completely taken over by local people. Over the years we have learnt a great deal about the issues that particularly affect Africa and while it is hazardous to make statements about a whole continent there does seem to be enough coherence to make it meaningful to talk of African culture and therefore to discuss issues that arise when one considers Amidism in that context. This group is, therefore, an invitation to such discussion.
