I am new to this list, and wondering if there is interest and/or activity around support of the Amida Trust in the United States. I feel deeply that socially-engaged pure land buddhism needs to be known here, and would be happy to correspond to those with similar ideas and energy. What do you think?
If you look down....way down....the LH column on the Main page you'll find a good number of US members, with whom you could become friends. Also Dharmavidya and Prasada may well travel to the USA/Canada early next year - join and look in the Travel group - here. And you can come and visit The Buddhist House and/or Amida France!
My name is Tome De Mann and I live in Las Vegas. I do have an extreme interest in the Amida Trust. As far as I am aware there is unfortunately no activity in the US but I may be wrong. I would enjoying corresponding with you if you would like.
I have been a Pure Land follower for 3 years now. I was playing on the internet and fortunately came across the website. After checking it out, I was quite impressed and joined immediately. I currently am a member of a Jodo Shu Sangha here in Las Vegas.
Discussion is underway. David and I have exchanged emails on the subject and he and Caroline are in touch with people in North America to explore revitalizing the non-profit status that was established a while back. It would be great to pull that team together and determine next steps. I should hear more soon and will share then. If anyone else who reads this knows more about the endeavor, please chime it. Thanks!
Nice idea. Folks may need to know that the reality they self concoct is their cause of suffering. Hi Lisa, werdnatwo@yahoo.com Andrew, here in Alaska.( Yao Xiang )I believe there is indeed an Amida Trust branch in the US ...maybe in Seattle or area..amongst some.Nice to meet you Lisa...
Nice to meet you, too. How are things in Alaska? People in the lower 48 are talking quite a lot about Alaska these days, between Gov Palin's run for Vice President and the trial of Ted Stevens. Have you been involved or followed politics much? I'm curious about media coverage of these events within Alaska.
Lisa
I was one of the first to have a go at planting Amida Trust in N. America, and did quite a bit of organizing. I am the one who founded Amida West, and we are on the way to ratify the articles of incorporation and get it up and running once again. Please do ask if there is any specific question you think I might be able to answer for you. I wish I'd met you when I was up in your area last year with my kids as they returned from Iraq and Ft Carson. That is a whole different discussion!
Please feel free to contact me, and we will see how we can all work together to firmly plant the Amida Sangha here and there! I feel it's a great challenge because of the distance between us all, yet here we are corresponding in a new world and cyber space!
Much love and peace,
Amaya

Hi, Amaya:
I am on board with this discussion. Dh has even convinced me to join the Ning site. This goes against my nature as I have been trying to spend less time online than more. Oh well. So much for my own plans.
