Within the ongoing and ever-present beating of the heart, from
birth until death, lies the experience of compassion and heartfelt response, and the understanding of perception and reality.
Its role in self-preservation, as the heart nourishes first itself before any other part of its body, holds up a mirror to therapist and carer as the balance between careful consideration for self and adequate resonance and empathy for other is found. Spirals of the heart's musculature, echoed within the structure of DNA of each cell of the body, form the basis of resonance and the most subtle level of communication. Softening and opening around its tissues allow this phenomenal energy and natural quality of goodness its fullness and flow. The act of respiration may also be seen as metaphor in our everyday exchanges with others and more specifically within the therapeutic context. Meditative attention, empathy and compassion are explored with attention to sensory awareness to appreciate more fully the process of perception and ways in which reality is constructed and experienced. Enquiry into Buddhist psychotherapy provides a framework within which to understand the relationship between perception, choice and health, whilst the practice of Authentic
Movement is deepened to assess and guide the pace of
therapy.
